Joel Armia was born on 31 May 1993 in Pori, Finland. He attended a Swedish-speaking school known for nurturing talented ice hockey players. Growing up in a sports-oriented environment, Armia was exposed to various sports, including association football, which he played as a junior for his local club, Musan Salama. His early experiences in sports laid the foundation for his future career in ice hockey.

Path to Hockey

Armia began his hockey journey in the youth ranks of Porin Ässät. In the 2008–09 season, he emerged as a standout player, leading the U16 SM-sarja with 27 goals and earning the Keijo Kuusela award. His impressive performance in junior leagues caught the attention of scouts, and by the age of 17, he was promoted to Porin Ässät’s senior team during the 2010–11 season.
