Joel Blomqvist (born 10 January 2002) is a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender who currently plays with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract as a prospect for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). A left-catching goaltender listed at 6 feet 3 inches and 200 pounds, Blomqvist was a second-round selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Early Career (2019–2022)
On 7 December 2019, Joel Blomqvist made his Liiga debut for Oulun Kärpät against HIFK. He followed that with his first Liiga start on 26 December 2019 against JYP. In March 2020, he committed his future to Kärpät by signing a three-year contract with the club. The young netminder earned his first Liiga victory on 1 October 2020, and was then loaned to Kokkolan Hermes of the Mestis for the 2020–21 season to gather additional senior experience.
