Jordan Harris is an American professional ice hockey player who is a defenseman for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected in the third round, 71st overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2018 NHL entry draft. Harris has also previously played for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Early Life and Background
Jordan Harris was born on July 7, 2000, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, to Ginny and Peter Harris. His mother is a nurse, while his father is a physical therapist. Harris is biracial and Jewish, with his mother being white and non-Jewish, and his father being half-black and Jewish, having been adopted from a Jewish orphanage. Growing up, Harris was influenced by his father’s background in ice hockey, as his father played for UMass Lowell. Initially, Harris considered becoming a goaltender like his father and older brother Elijah, but he ultimately chose to play as a defenseman. Harris attended Haverhill High School for one year before transferring to Kimball Union Academy, a boarding school in New Hampshire. During his three years at Kimball, he scored 18 goals and 64 assists in 111 games, serving as the team’s captain in the 2017–18 season.
Path to Hockey
Harris played five games with the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League during the 2017–18 season. After being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 2018, he committed to playing college ice hockey at Northeastern University. Harris made an immediate impact at Northeastern, scoring his first collegiate goal on October 13, 2018, in a 5–0 shutout win over Sacred Heart. In his freshman season, he recorded one goal and 12 assists in 39 games, contributing to Northeastern’s victories in both the 2019 Beanpot and the 2019 Hockey East Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament. His performance continued to improve, and he became known for his playmaking abilities.

Early Career (2022)
Shortly after completing his college career, Harris signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens. He made his NHL debut on April 2, 2022, finishing the game with a plus-minus rating of +1 and three blocked shots in a 5–4 shootout victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Harris played ten games with the Canadiens during the 2021–22 season, scoring his first NHL goal in the final game of the season against the Florida Panthers.
Breakthrough (2023-2024)
On August 19, 2024, Harris was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Patrik Laine and a second-round pick in 2026. During the 2024–25 season, he played as a depth defenseman, participating in 33 regular-season games and recording one goal and four assists. As a pending restricted free agent, he was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Blue Jackets, making him a free agent after just one season.
