In 2021, Jordan Wicks was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the first round with the 21st overall pick of the Major League Baseball draft, making him the highest and first-ever first-round draft pick from Kansas State’s baseball program. He signed with the Cubs for a $3.1 million signing bonus and made his professional debut with the South Bend Cubs of the High-A Central, where he pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out five.

Wicks returned to South Bend to open the 2022 season before being promoted to the Tennessee Smokies of the Double-A Southern League in mid-July.
