Barcoo attended Castle Park High School in Chula Vista, where he earned three letters in football and became a two-way starter. During his final two seasons, he rushed for 472 yards and six touchdowns, while also catching 71 passes for 1,314 yards and 15 touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 74 tackles, four tackles for loss, five interceptions, nine pass breakups, and one blocked field goal. Despite suffering a hamstring injury during his senior season, he managed to play in the playoffs and scored Castle Park’s only touchdown in that game.

Path to American Football

After high school, Barcoo played two years of junior college football at Grossmont Community College in El Cajon, California. He earned the starting cornerback position as a freshman, where he recorded 21 total tackles, two interceptions, and four pass breakups. The following season, he transitioned to wide receiver, catching 35 passes for 767 yards and seven touchdowns. Barcoo was considered a two-star JUCO recruit by 247Sports. He later transferred to San Diego State University, where he played primarily on special teams during the 2018 season, recording one interception, 500 pass breakups, and 70 tackles. In 2019, he had a standout season, leading college football in interceptions, passes defended, and pass breakups, which helped pave the way for his entry into the NFL.
