Matt McCarty was born in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he spent his formative years. He attended Santa Clara University from 2016 to 2021, initially majoring in finance before switching to marketing in graduate school. During his time at Santa Clara, McCarty earned three All-West Coast Conference honors and showcased his talent by reaching the quarterfinals at the 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball alongside his teammate Derek Ackerman, finishing with a remarkable 13-under-par 128 in stroke play, the best in the field.
