He continued to excel in the following seasons, leading to his selection in the third round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. In the 2017-18 season, Villalta had a record of 40 wins and 5 losses, earning him third-team All-OHL honors and the Dave Pinkney Trophy for best GAA.
