Michael Dunn was born in Bethesda, Maryland. He grew up in a Jewish family, with his parents being David and Tamara Dunn. He has two siblings, Renee and Eitan. Dunn attended Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, where he played for the school’s football team as an offensive tackle and guard. His performance earned him recognition, and as a senior, he was named second-team all-county.
Following high school, Dunn pursued higher education at the University of Maryland, graduating in 2016 with a degree in Economics. During his time at Maryland, he played college football, starting 48 games from 2013 to 2016 for the Terrapins, including 37 consecutive games.
