Nicholas Maton was born on February 18, 1997, in Chatham, Illinois. He grew up in a supportive environment that fostered his love for baseball. Maton attended Glenwood High School, where he was a standout player on the Titans baseball team. During his senior year, he earned first team All-State honors and was named the Central State Eight Conference Player of the Year. He had an impressive batting average of .442, with 28 runs batted in, 45 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases. As a pitcher, he achieved an 8–1 record with a 0.95 earned run average and 102 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched.
After high school, Maton was selected in the 40th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft by the Oakland Athletics but chose to pursue college baseball instead.
