Jordan Westburg Bio
Jordan Cole Westburg (born February 18, 1999) is an American professional baseball infielder for the Baltimore Orioles of Major League Baseball (MLB). Although he was primarily a shortstop throughout college and the minor leagues, he has mainly played second and third base since his MLB debut in 2023. Through the 2025 season, he had posted a .264 career batting average with 38 home runs and 127 runs batted in for Baltimore.
Early Life and Background
Jordan Cole Westburg was born on February 18, 1999, in New Braunfels, Texas. He grew up in the same neighborhood as fellow pitcher Bryce Miller, and the two became childhood friends. Westburg attended New Braunfels High School, where he played baseball, basketball, and football, balancing multiple sports during his formative years.
As a senior in 2017, Westburg batted .457 with four home runs and 22 runs batted in, earning All-State honors. Despite his strong senior season, he went undrafted in the 2017 Major League Baseball draft. He had already committed to play college baseball at Mississippi State University after his junior year, choosing to further develop his game at the collegiate level.
Path to Baseball
At Mississippi State, Westburg worked his way into a regular role. In 2018, his freshman year, he appeared in 42 games with 31 starts, batting .248 with two home runs and 30 runs batted in while missing time with a hamstring injury. As a sophomore in 2019, he started 66 games, hitting .300 with six home runs and 61 runs batted in, and was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week in March after batting .476 with two home runs and 11 runs batted in over five games.
That summer, Westburg played in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks and was also named to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. In 2020, his junior season, he batted .317 with two home runs and 11 runs batted in over 16 games before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His college performance positioned him as a strong prospect for the upcoming draft.

Early Career (2020–2021)
The Baltimore Orioles selected Westburg with the 30th overall pick in the 2020 Major League Baseball draft. He signed with the Orioles on June 28, 2020, for a $2.3 million bonus, but did not play in a game that year due to the cancellation of the minor league season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He made his professional debut in 2021 with the Delmarva Shorebirds of the Low-A East.
Westburg climbed three levels during the 2021 season. On June 1, he was promoted to the Aberdeen IronBirds of the High-A East, and in mid-August, he was promoted to the Bowie Baysox of the Double-A Northeast. Over 112 games between the three affiliates, he slashed .285/.389/.479 with 15 home runs, 79 runs batted in, 17 stolen bases, and 27 doubles, demonstrating a balanced offensive profile.
Minor League Development (2022–2023)
Westburg returned to Bowie to begin the 2022 season. After batting .247 with nine home runs and 32 runs batted in over 47 games, he was promoted to the Norfolk Tides of the Triple-A International League in early June. Over 91 games with Norfolk to end the season, he batted .273 with 18 home runs and 74 runs batted in, showing improved power production at the higher level.
To open the 2023 season, he returned to Norfolk. In 67 games for the Tides, Westburg hit .295/.372/.567 with 18 home runs and 54 runs batted in, putting himself in position for a major league call-up. The Orioles selected him to the 40-man roster and promoted him to the major leagues for the first time on June 26, 2023.
Major League Debut and Orioles Tenure (2023–Present)
Westburg made his MLB debut that night as the starting second baseman, helping the Orioles defeat the Cincinnati Reds 10–3 at Camden Yards. He drew a walk and scored a run in the second inning, drove in a run with a fielder’s choice in the third, and added a one-out single in the fifth in his first three plate appearances. Westburg hit his first major league home run on July 24, 2023, against Philadelphia Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez at Citizens Bank Park.
Westburg began the 2024 season in the Orioles’ opening day lineup as the designated hitter against the Los Angeles Angels, recording an RBI single. He went on the injured list after sustaining a fracture in his right hand when he was hit by a Yerry Rodríguez pitch in the fifth inning of a 10–4 home win over the Toronto Blue Jays on July 31, 2024.
2025 Season
Westburg set an MLB career-best five runs batted in during an Orioles’ 12–0 away win over the Houston Astros on August 17, 2025. He made 85 appearances for Baltimore during the regular season, batting .265/.313/.457 with 17 home runs and 41 runs batted in, continuing to be a steady middle-of-the-order presence for the club.

Westburg’s first major league home run came on July 24, 2023, against Cristopher Sanchez at Citizens Bank Park.
