Orioles’ Jordan Westburg Out Months with Elbow Injury

Baltimore Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg will be sidelined until at least May after suffering a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, general manager Mike Elias confirmed on Friday. The injury intensifies challenges for the Orioles’ infield as the new season nears and Westburg’s recovery timetable remains uncertain.

Westburg, 27, underwent a platelet-rich injection last Friday as part of his treatment plan. Elias noted that a clearer estimate for his return will be available after April. This elbow setback follows an earlier right oblique injury sustained in the offseason, which had already kept Westburg from participating in spring training drills.

How Westburg’s Injury Affects Baltimore’s Infield Options

The Orioles will start the season missing two vital infielders as second baseman Jackson Holliday recovers from a broken hamate bone in his right hand. Holliday, 22, is projected to be back by mid-April, potentially providing a boost to the roster once healthy.

The team’s infield depth is therefore strained at the start of the campaign due to these simultaneous absences.

Westburg’s Performance History Amid Previous Setbacks

Despite dealing with multiple injuries, Westburg has maintained solid offensive contributions in past seasons. In 2025, he batted .265 with 17 home runs and 41 RBIs over 85 games, missing time due to a left hamstring strain and right ankle sprain. The prior year, he hit .264 with 18 home runs and 63 RBIs in 107 games, earning an All-Star selection before a broken right hand, caused by a pitch, sidelined him for nearly two months.

Outlook for Westburg and Team’s Recovery Plans

According to the Orioles’ medical staff, close monitoring of Westburg’s rehabilitation is underway, with hopes that he can return during the season to strengthen Baltimore’s competitive position. The team will continue to assess his progress as the season develops.
