Obinna Eze went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft but was signed by the Detroit Lions on May 13, 2022, ahead of their training camp. His journey to make the 53-man roster was featured on the HBO television show Hard Knocks. During the 2022 preseason, Eze showcased his abilities in several games, playing 31 snaps against the Atlanta Falcons, 22 snaps against the Indianapolis Colts, and 23 snaps against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite his efforts, he was waived on August 30, 2022, but was signed to the practice squad the following day.

Breakthrough (2023)

Eze signed a reserve/future contract with the Detroit Lions on January 9, 2023, but was waived again on August 27, 2023. On October 3, 2023, he joined the practice squad of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but was released on October 24. Later, he signed with the Michigan Panthers of the United States Football League (USFL) on December 8, 2023, but was released shortly after to sign with an NFL team. On December 13, 2023, Eze was signed to the New York Jets practice squad, where he signed a reserve/future contract on January 8, 2024. He was waived on August 27, 2024, but re-signed to the practice squad.
