Peyton Tyler Watson (born September 11, 2002) is an American professional basketball player for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). A McDonald’s All-American in high school, Watson played one season of college basketball for the UCLA Bruins before being selected in the first round of the 2022 NBA draft with the 30th overall pick. He plays the small forward position and wears jersey number 8 for the Nuggets. Listed at 6 feet 8 inches and 200 pounds, he is regarded as a long-term developmental project with a wide wingspan and strong defensive instincts.

High School Career
Watson attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, California, joining the varsity team as a freshman. After spending his early years coming off the bench, he assumed a leading role in his junior season, averaging 23.2 points and eight rebounds per game. His strong play earned him Moore League MVP honors and selections to the rosters of the McDonald’s All-American Game, the Jordan Brand Classic, and the Nike Hoop Summit.
Recruiting and College Career (2021–2022)
Watson was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the top-ranked small forwards in the 2021 recruiting class, as well as the highest-ranked player from California that year. On July 27, 2020, he committed to UCLA over offers from Arizona, Gonzaga, Michigan, Oregon, and Washington. Watson was open with the Bruins coaching staff that he planned to be a one-and-done college player and leave for the NBA after one year.
As a freshman at UCLA in 2021–22, Watson joined a veteran team that had reached the Final Four the previous season, with all five starters returning. He arrived out of shape after his senior year was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and his playing time was sporadic. Watson averaged 3.3 points and 2.9 rebounds in 12.6 minutes per game, shooting 32.2 percent from the field and 22.6 percent from three-point range. Professional Career with the Denver Nuggets (2022–Present)
Watson was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 30th overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft and was immediately traded to the Denver Nuggets along with two future second-round picks in exchange for JaMychal Green and a 2027 protected first-round pick. Projected as a long-term project, he split his rookie season between Denver and the Grand Rapids Gold of the NBA G League. In 23 appearances with the Nuggets, including two starts, he averaged 3.3 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.5 assists, and finished the year as an NBA champion after the Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals.
In 2023–24, Watson played 80 games with four starts and improved his averages to 6.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. He continued his development in 2024–25, appearing in 68 games with 18 starts and posting averages of 8.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

On November 19, 2025, Watson set new career highs with 32 points and 12 rebounds in a 125–118 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. On January 22, 2026, he set another career high with 35 points in a 107–97 victory over the Washington Wizards. Watson’s father, Julio Watson, works as a medical device representative, and his mother is an event planner. He has a younger brother, Christian, who plays basketball at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, and a younger sister, Jolie Grace. Watson was born in Beverly Hills, California, and grew up in the Long Beach area where he developed his basketball skills.
