Salvatore Michael Frelick is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2023. He played college baseball for the Boston College Eagles. The Brewers selected Frelick in the first round with the 15th overall selection of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft.

Early Life and Background

Sal Frelick was born on April 19, 2000, in Lexington, Massachusetts. He attended Lexington High School, where he excelled in multiple sports, including football, hockey, and baseball. As a senior, he was named the Gatorade State Player of the Year in football after an impressive season as the starting quarterback, throwing for 30 touchdowns. Frelick committed to Boston College to play college baseball, where he was also offered a football scholarship.

Path to Baseball

At Boston College, Sal Frelick quickly made a name for himself. In his freshman year, he was named Second Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and made the ACC All-Freshman Team after batting .367 with four home runs, 32 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases. His sophomore season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, but he returned as a junior to bat .359 with a .443 on-base percentage, earning first team All-ACC honors and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award. Frelick’s strong performance in college set the stage for his entry into professional baseball.

Early Career (2021–2022)

The Milwaukee Brewers selected Sal Frelick in the first round of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft, making him the 15th overall pick. He signed with the Brewers on July 20, 2021, for a signing bonus of $4 million. Frelick began his professional career in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League, where he quickly showcased his skills with seven hits in 15 at-bats. He was promoted to the Low-A Carolina Mudcats and later to the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, where he continued to develop as a player.

Breakthrough (2023)

Frelick began the 2023 season with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. After a thumb injury sidelined him for a period, he made his Major League debut on July 22, 2023. In his debut, he made an immediate impact by hitting safely in his first three at-bats and contributing to a victory over the Atlanta Braves. He recorded his first career home run just two days later, further solidifying his place in the Brewers’ lineup.

Notable Works and Milestones

In 2024, Sal Frelick batted .259 with two home runs and 32 RBIs. Despite some struggles at the plate, he excelled defensively, leading all National League outfielders with 15 Defensive Runs Saved and earning the Gold Glove Award for his position.
