Early Life and Background

Shemar Bartholomew was born on June 6, 2000, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in a large family, having six siblings. Bartholomew attended Cypress Ranch High School in Texas, where he played cornerback for three years on the varsity football team. During his senior year, he helped his team win playoff games and recorded impressive statistics, totaling 40 tackles, five interceptions, and 12 pass breakups. He graduated from Cypress Ranch with a strong academic record, achieving a grade-point average (GPA) of 4.34. Following high school, he committed to play college football for the Northwestern State Demons in the NCAA Division I FCS.

Path to American Football

Bartholomew began his college career at Northwestern State in 2018. As a freshman, he appeared in eight games, starting three, and recorded 14 tackles, three pass breakups, and two interceptions. His performance improved in the 2019 season, where he played in nine games, starting six, and made 26 tackles along with four interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. His efforts earned him recognition as a third-team All-Southland Conference performer and an honorable mention sophomore All-American by HERO Sports. After a redshirt year in 2022, he transferred to Georgia Southern for the 2023 season, where he continued to excel. He played in 13 games, starting five, and made 38 tackles, along with 14 pass breakups and one interception, culminating in being named second-team All-Sun Belt Conference.

Early Career (2024)

After going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, Shemar Bartholomew signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. He made a strong impression during the preseason, allowing no receiving yards on nine targets. However, he was waived by the Jets on August 29, 2024. Shortly after, he was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers on August 28, 2024, where he became a sought-after player, with four teams vying for his services.

Breakthrough (2025)

Bartholomew’s time with the Carolina Panthers was brief, as he was waived on August 26, 2025, and subsequently re-signed to the practice squad, only to be released the next day. He then signed with the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad on November 11, 2025, but was released shortly thereafter on November 25. His journey continued when he was signed to the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad on December 2, 2025.
