Early Life and Background
Vimael Machín Soto was born in Gurabo, Puerto Rico. He attended the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School, where he began to develop his skills in baseball. His early exposure to the sport laid a strong foundation for his future career. After high school, Machín attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where he played four years of college baseball for the VCU Rams.
Path to Baseball
Machín’s journey in baseball began when he was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 29th round of the 2011 MLB draft, but he did not sign. Instead, he continued his education and baseball career at Virginia Commonwealth University. Vimael Machín made his major league debut on July 26, 2020, with the Oakland Athletics against the Los Angeles Angels. In his rookie season, he played in 24 games, posting a batting average of .206. The following year, he played in only 15 games for the Athletics, but he spent a significant amount of time with the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators, where he batted .295 and hit 11 home runs.
In 2022, Machín was called back to the major leagues and hit his first career home run on July 10. He played in 73 games that season, finishing with a batting average of .220 and a career-high 13 runs batted in. However, he was designated for assignment in December 2022 and subsequently elected free agency.

His performance caught the attention of major league teams, leading to a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles in November 2024.
