Will Clapp is an American professional football center for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). Born on December 10, 1995, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Clapp played college football for the Louisiana State University Tigers. Over his career, he has also played for the Los Angeles Chargers and the Buffalo Bills.

Early Life and Background

Will Clapp attended Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he began to develop his skills in football. He committed to play for the LSU Tigers in January 2010, marking the beginning of his journey in competitive football.

Path to American Football

Clapp did not play as a true freshman in 2014, opting to redshirt that year. In 2015, as a redshirt freshman, he started all 12 games for the Tigers, showcasing his talent by ranking third on the team in total snaps and knockdown blocks, while not allowing a sack throughout the season. His performance earned him a spot on the 2015 Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman team.

During his redshirt sophomore year in 2016, Clapp continued to excel, starting 11 of 12 games and again not allowing a sack. He was recognized for his efforts by being named to the 2016 All-SEC football team. In 2017, he started all 13 games for the Tigers and was named to the All-SEC Football Team for the second consecutive year. After this successful college career, Clapp decided to forgo his final year of eligibility and declared for the 2018 NFL Draft.

Early Career (2018–2021)

Will Clapp was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, being the 245th overall pick. He signed his rookie contract with the Saints on May 10, 2018, and made his NFL debut on December 17, 2018, against the Carolina Panthers. Clapp played in 14 games during the 2019 season, starting three of them.

In 2020, Clapp faced challenges as he was waived by the Saints but later re-signed to the practice squad. He spent much of the season alternating between the active roster and the practice squad, playing in several games and also spending time on the reserve/COVID-19 list during the postseason. Clapp re-signed with the Saints on April 20, 2021, and started three games that season, playing alongside notable quarterbacks such as Jameis Winston and Trevor Siemian.

Breakthrough (2022–2025)

On April 26, 2022, Will Clapp signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. He re-signed with the Chargers on April 6, 2023, and was named the starting center in Week 4 due to an injury to the starter, Corey Linsley. Unfortunately, Clapp suffered a knee injury in Week 15 and was placed on injured reserve on December 18, 2023.

Clapp signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills on March 22, 2024, reuniting him with offensive coordinator Joe Brady. He was initially waived on August 27, 2024, but later added to the practice squad and promoted to the active roster on September 26. However, he faced further challenges, being waived again on December 14, 2024, and re-signed to the practice squad three days later.

On March 13, 2025, Clapp returned to the New Orleans Saints, but his season was cut short due to a Lisfranc injury sustained in the first preseason game, leading to his placement on season-ending injured reserve on August 12, 2025.
