Josh Naylor Leads Canada’s Powerhouse World Baseball Classic Roster

Baseball Canada announced on Thursday a 30-player roster for the upcoming World Baseball Classic, headlined by all-star first baseman Josh Naylor. Naylor, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, enjoyed a standout 2025 season, hitting 20 home runs and driving in 92 runs while playing for both the Cleveland Guardians and Seattle Mariners. His contributions were key in leading the Mariners to the American League Championship Series. This tournament marks Naylor’s second appearance at the World Baseball Classic.

Canada’s lineup boasts 21 players who currently play in Major League Baseball or have prior MLB experience. Two-time Gold Glove winner Tyler O’Neill from Burnaby, British Columbia, returns for his third consecutive Classic, adding veteran presence alongside Naylor. Notably, Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman withdrew from the event last month for personal reasons, but the team remains deeply skilled and well-prepared.
