Paul Arriola’s Emotional ACL Comeback Sparks 2026 Hopes

Paul Arriola’s return to Lumen Field on Sunday marked a significant milestone after nearly a year away. Following a torn left ACL suffered during a Concacaf Champions Cup match against Cruz Azul last March, Arriola missed the remainder of the 2025 season. His brief 88th-minute substitution for Albert Rusnák helped the Seattle Sounders secure a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids in the season opener.

More Than Just Minutes Played

Though his time on the field was limited, Arriola’s comeback symbolized much more than a short appearance. It represented the culmination of months of dedication, recovery, and perseverance as he worked tirelessly toward this moment.

“It was obviously short-lived, but it meant a lot more than just those minutes,”

Arriola reflected on Wednesday.

“It was an accumulation of all the sacrifice, of all the tears, the hard work and the long days.”

Looking Forward to Continued Progress

Arriola emphasized that his focus now is to rebuild his confidence, gain more playing time, and contribute to the team’s success.

“My goal was to always be ready for the first game of the season… Now that the return is done with, it’s just about getting more minutes, getting confidence and helping the team win games.”

His gradual but determined comeback provides hope not only for his own future but also for the Sounders’ ambitions heading into 2026.
