Kyle Busch Vows to Finally Win Daytona 500 in 2026

Kyle Busch enters the 2026 NASCAR season determined to break through and claim victories, focusing especially on achieving his long-awaited Daytona 500 win. After facing challenges and inconsistent results over the last two years, Busch’s recent pole position at Daytona has reignited his competitive fire. The Kyle Busch Daytona Win remains a driving goal as he aims to reclaim his spot at the front.

Busch’s recent seasons have been marked by near misses and setbacks. Incidents like car wrecks caused by the pack’s tight racing, mechanical failures, and pit stop mistakes repeatedly stood in his way. When Busch transitioned from Joe Gibbs Racing to Richard Childress Racing (RCR) in 2023, he immediately found success with three victories in his debut year for the team. However, the momentum slowed down after that strong start.

Despite these hurdles, Busch insists his motivation has never waned. In an interview with FOX8 WGHP, he addressed critics who claim that his age or recent struggles limit his ability to win again.

Absolutely, I think there’s a lot of people out there that want to be detractors and want to say that you’re too old, you can’t do it, this and that. And I’m like, all I did was move from Joe Gibbs Racing to Richard Childress Racing,  and when I first got here, we won three races in one year,

the 40-year-old driver said.

So it’s just a matter of putting all the right people in all the right places and having the things kind of go your way,

he added.

So again, a lot of different things that can happen in this business that can set you forward or bring you back, and so we want to get back up towards the front.

Busch’s Career Achievements and Ongoing Drive

Kyle Busch holds the distinction as the winningest active driver in NASCAR’s Cup Series with 63 victories in 750 starts over more than two decades. He claimed the championship titles in 2015 and 2019, securing a prominent place among the sport’s elite. Although his trophy shelf is extensive, Busch remains as hungry as ever, eager to add the Daytona 500 trophy, a prize that has consistently eluded him, to his collection.

The Elusive Daytona 500 Victory and Near Misses

Busch’s pursuit of the Daytona 500 win has been a defining and frustrating aspect of his career. He has led over 340 laps in the race – the highest total among active competitors still chasing their first victory there – yet he has never crossed the finish line first.

Approaching his 21st attempt at the Daytona 500, Busch summed up the feeling plainly:

If you were eating and you haven’t eaten in 22 years, you’d be pretty hungry, right?

So that’s a race I certainly want to shout out on and win and check the box for, we’ve been able to accomplish it. It’s been a long time. I mean, we’ve been ‘Oh so close’ there a few times, more so since being at RCR. I’ve had some really, really good chances of winning that race,

Busch stated, emphasizing his ongoing determination.

Historic Races Shaping Busch’s Complex Daytona Story

Busch’s rides at Daytona have included dramatic moments and disappointments. In his first Daytona 500 race with Richard Childress Racing, Busch led the race at the 500-mile mark, closely contesting the lead with teammate Austin Dillon. A caution period bunched the field, and a last-lap crash pushed Busch down to 19th place.

In 2019, Kyle finished a hard-fought second place behind Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin in what was a memorable 1-2 team finish. During the 2021 race, Busch had an opportunity on the final lap but was caught in a wreck triggered by Joey Logano, relegating him to 14th place. These instances are emblematic of Busch’s career-long challenges at Daytona—close calls thwarted by unpredictable events on the track.

Looking Ahead: Renewed Effort with RCR and Chevrolet

For 2026, Busch returns with a refreshed approach behind the wheel of the No. 8 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, aiming to capitalize on the new car body and build on past experiences. Despite the pattern of near victories, Busch hopes that this year will bring him luck and strategic advantages, finally allowing him to capture the coveted Daytona 500 trophy and join the ranks of champions in this hallmark event.
