Austin Hill, representing Richard Childress Racing, arrives at his home venue, EchoPark Speedway, boasting five victories in the last seven events there, including two consecutive wins in the Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250. His teammate, Jesse Love, the reigning NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion, has secured pole position in three of the previous four races at Atlanta Motor Speedway, setting up a competitive dynamic between the two RCR drivers. This budding rivalry has sparked interest as both compete fiercely on large, fast tracks.
Developing Competition Between Hill and Love Builds Momentum
When asked about their rivalry, both drivers expressed mutual respect and recognition of the motivation it provides. Jesse Love remarked,
“I guess there is that motivation because Austin hangs a lot of banners up at RCR. So I have that and that rivalry. … Especially at these race tracks he’s the toughest one to beat and I definitely learn a lot from him. At the end of the race sometimes we’re racing other people in the field, but nine times out of 10 we’re racing for the win.”
Mutual Challenges Push Both Drivers to Perform at Their Best
Hill, who claimed victory in the Daytona season opener with his No. 21 RCR Chevrolet, acknowledged that Love’s No. 2 Chevrolet is always his main competition during races on superspeedways, especially the drafting tracks like Daytona, Atlanta, and Talladega. He explained the nature of their rivalry, saying,
“I would say when we’re out here at these speedways especially here at Atlanta, the number one car I don’t want behind me at the end of the race is the No. 2 car because I know he has just as good equipment as I have and he knows what he’s doing on these superspeedways. So him talking about me being his biggest threat, he’s my biggest threat I feel like. There’s always that little fun rivalry you have inside the shop, but I think it kind of elevates both of us to the next level and pushes us to be better on the race track. We work well together when we have to, but then when it’s gloves off and we’re going for the win we’re going to try everything we can not to lose the race for both of us – but obviously he wants to win and I want to win for our team. It’s a fun little rivalry when we come to these places.”
Qualifying Results Set the Stage for Intense Competition
In recent qualifying at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Sam Mayer of Haas Factory Team earned the Kennametal Pole Position driving the No. 41 Chevrolet Camaro. Meanwhile, Jesse Love secured starting position 10th, and Austin Hill will begin the race in 20th place. This lineup adds anticipation for a noteworthy battle between RCR teammates and other top drivers during the upcoming event.

The Significance of the Rivalry for RCR and NASCAR’s Big Tracks
The ongoing competition between Austin Hill and Jesse Love highlights the depth of talent within Richard Childress Racing and presents an exciting storyline for NASCAR fans, particularly on superspeedways where drafting and strategy are critical. Their friendly rivalry serves to sharpen both drivers’ skills and contributes to the team’s continued success at major venues like Daytona, Atlanta, and Talladega. As the season advances, this dynamic is likely to raise the level of competition and bring compelling moments to the sport.
