During a recent episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin criticized Spire Motorsports driver Carson Hocevar for his aggressive driving approach. Hamlin reflected on Hocevar’s performance at EchoPark Speedway, where the #77 Chevy Camaro ZL1 started 15th and ran among the top five in the final laps.
Hamlin specifically cited a late move Hocevar made on Christopher Bell during overtime, which caused Bell to crash and lose his chance to win the race. While Hocevar’s style is popular with fans, Hamlin conveyed the frustration it brings to fellow drivers, warning that such tactics tend to have consequences on the track.
He stated,
“It’s tough to watch. The media loves it, by the way. If you want to see what the media thinks, just ask them, and they’ll tell you, ‘Ah, we love Hocevar.’ Well, no question you do because he’s giving you some content for you to talk about. As a competitor, though, like, eventually, it’s going to come back around.”

Hamlin added that Hocevar may be lacking the finesse required to consistently win races beyond merely having speed.
“I think he’s missing a little bit of the craftsmanship of winning these races beyond just having a fast car. There’s just so much more to it, and I don’t know; it’s tough to watch as a competitor, but I don’t think we’re gonna do anything about it. I think you just gotta let it play itself out over time. I think he knows that anyone he gets into, he’s gonna have to be on his tippy toes when he’s racing around those guys, which is a tough way to race. But, if you don’t care, you don’t care, and that’s OK, too,”

Recent Race Outcomes and Standings Impact
At the Autotrader 400, Carson Hocevar secured a solid fourth-place finish behind Ross Chastain, showcasing competitive form. In contrast, Denny Hamlin was caught in a multi-car collision that relegated him to 13th place, earning just ten points. Meanwhile, Tyler Reddick claimed his second victory of the season and currently leads the championship standings, intensifying the competition for the title.
Hamlin Discusses Extended Sponsorship with National Debt Relief
Joe Gibbs Racing announced a renewal of its partnership with National Debt Relief through the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season. The sponsorship, which began partway through the 2025 season with Denny Hamlin’s #11 Toyota Camry XSE, will continue in 2026 with the debt settlement company backing eight additional races. This marks a total of twelve events featuring the National Debt Relief paint scheme on Hamlin’s car this season.
The partnership debuted prominently at the 2026 Daytona 500 on February 15, marking the first major race under the renewed agreement. National Debt Relief also sponsored Hamlin’s ride at the recent EchoPark Speedway event, and the scheme is set to appear again at the DuraMax Grand Prix Powered by RelaDyne, scheduled for March 1, 2026, at Circuit of the Americas.
Hamlin expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing collaboration, saying,
“National Debt Relief is a great partner for our No. 11 team. Last year, their team was incredible with how they became ingrained with Joe Gibbs Racing and how they activated with the commercial spot and during the broadcasts, which grew awareness that National Debt Relief is a brand consumers can trust to help them find a faster path to debt freedom. I’m excited to see how we can continue to grow this partnership and get them to victory lane in 2026.”

Implications of Hocevar’s Driving Style for the NASCAR Field
Carson Hocevar’s assertive and sometimes controversial moves have generated excitement among the crowd but have fueled tension among drivers on the circuit. Hamlin’s warnings highlight the precarious balance between aggressive racing and maintaining respect among competitors. The finishing positions at recent races suggest that while Hocevar’s approach yields strong results, it may also provoke retaliation or increased caution from fellow drivers.
As the NASCAR season advances, monitoring how Hocevar’s style affects race dynamics and driver relationships will be critical. Hamlin’s remarks underscore the importance of strategy, not just speed, in securing victories and sustaining success throughout the demanding Cup Series schedule.
