Gilbert Arenas Hails Trae Young Wizards Trade as A+ Move

The Washington Wizards have emerged as one of the most aggressive teams during this NBA trade deadline, securing All-Star players Anthony Davis and Trae Young to strengthen their roster. These acquisitions, made in 2024, reflect the franchise’s ambition to rise from the league’s lower ranks and become a serious contender in the Eastern Conference.

Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas expressed strong approval of these trades, emphasizing their potential impact on the Wizards’ future prospects.

Gilbert Arenas Praises the Wizards’ Trade Strategy

On a recent episode of ‘The Arena,’ Gilbert Arenas shared his perspective on the significance of adding Davis and Young to the Wizards’ lineup.

They are an A plus right now on trades. You got Trae Young and Anthony Davis, you keep your draft pick, and you have [Alex] Sarr, and you have Tre [Johnson],

Arenas said.

You have a whole bunch of young boys over there with your veterans, and you’re going to get a top-10 pick.

Details of Trades That Changed the Wizards’ Roster

The Wizards initiated the flurry of deals by acquiring Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks, offering only CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert in exchange. Importantly, this trade did not require surrendering any future draft picks. Adding to this, Washington traded with the Dallas Mavericks for Anthony Davis, bringing in D’Angelo Russel, Dante Exum, and Jaden Hardy while sending multiple players, including Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malachi Branham, Marvin Bagley III, and several draft selections.

Among the picks traded were two first-round selections—one originally from the Oklahoma City Thunder for the current year, and a 2030 pick from the Golden State Warriors. However, the Wizards retained their own 2024 first-round draft pick, which is expected to be valuable in the upcoming lottery season.

Injuries and Future Prospects for the Wizards

At present, both Anthony Davis and Trae Young are sidelined due to injury, leaving the Wizards still in a rebuilding phase this season. Nevertheless, with a roster blending experienced veterans and promising young talent, Washington is well-positioned to compete in the Eastern Conference from next year onward.
