During the New York Knicks‘ matchup against the Denver Nuggets at Madison Square Garden, Karl-Anthony Towns experienced a painful head-to-head collision that forced him to leave the court temporarily. Late in the first quarter, Towns clashed heads with Denver forward Spencer Jones, resulting in a deep cut above Towns’ right eye that drew blood onto his jersey.
Despite the injury, Towns was able to make two successful free throws before being substituted for Mitchell Robinson and heading to the locker room for medical treatment and a fresh jersey. The six-time NBA All-Star, currently in his second season with the Knicks, returned later in the second quarter with new bandages and rejoined the game.
Towns’ Determination to Continue Playing Amid Injury
Before returning, Towns expressed his eagerness to remain on the court.
“I wanna play, I wanna play. This is a great game, this is great basketball being played right now on TV. This is what the fans want,”
he told ESPN. Showing resilience, he resumed playing despite the gruesome nature of the injury.

He later lightened the situation with a joke:
“It’s ok I look like I fought Shakur Stevenson.”
Impact on Both Players and Game Outcome
The collision also affected Spencer Jones, as the Nuggets reported he was questionable to return due to a head contusion, and he did not re-enter the game. The Knicks ultimately triumphed in a hard-fought battle, defeating Denver 134-127 after two overtime periods.
Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 24 points and 12 rebounds for New York, while teammate Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 42 points and OG Anunoby added 20. On the Nuggets’ side, Jamal Murray scored 39 points and Nikola Jokic recorded 30 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Upcoming Schedules and Team Momentum
The Knicks have extended their winning streak to eight games under head coach Mike Brown and will travel to Detroit for a game against the Pistons on Friday, followed by another road match versus the Boston Celtics on Sunday. Denver will face the Chicago Bulls on Saturday before returning home to play the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.
