Minnesota Timberwolves’ leading scorer Anthony Edwards might sit out this year’s NBA All-Star Game to focus on recovering from injuries ahead of the season‘s second half. Edwards, recognized as one of the league’s standout players, revealed that nagging physical issues are prompting him to consider missing the showcase event.
“I’m pretty banged up. I might not be playing,”
Edwards said, per The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski. “I hope it’s competitive.”
Recent Injury Updates and Game Performances
Throughout the season, Edwards has maintained strong health, only missing a single game so far. However, he was recently reported to have back spasms before Minnesota’s Monday game against the Memphis Grizzlies but still took the court. Edwards looked robust in that contest, delivering an impressive 39-point performance.
By Wednesday, the Timberwolves updated his injury status, listing him as having soreness in his left elbow. Despite this, Edwards continued to play effectively, posting 30 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in a victory over the Toronto Raptors—the franchise’s first win on the Raptors’ home court in 22 years.
Implications for the All-Star Game and Team Goals
The absence of Edwards would certainly be felt, as he was expected to join other stars such as Devin Booker, Cade Cunningham, and Tyrese Maxey in a fresh format pitting U.S.-based players against international competitors. Nevertheless, Edwards’ priority remains his health as the Timberwolves pursue a championship run.
Minnesota currently holds the fifth seed in the Western Conference with a 32-20 record, with Edwards playing a key role in their aspirations. Regardless of Edwards’ participation in the All-Star Game, the Timberwolves will benefit from a nine-day break following their February 9 matchup against the Atlanta Hawks, allowing additional time for recovery.

Anthony Edwards was ridiculous down the stretch. For the first time in 22 years (yes, that's right), the Wolves are winners in Toronto. What a gutsy win for a rumor-weary group.
