Donovan Mitchell Joins 3-Point Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend

CLEVELAND — Donovan Mitchell, guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, will compete in the 3-Point Contest during the NBA All-Star Weekend held in Los Angeles. The league announced on Sunday that Mitchell will be among eight players competing in this year’s shooting event, showcasing his status as a premier long-range scorer.

Strong Field of Competitors Set for 3-Point Challenge

Leading the NBA with 180 three-pointers made, Mitchell joins a talent-packed roster that includes Phoenix’s Devin Booker, Charlotte’s Kon Knueppel, Portland’s Damian Lillard, Philadelphia’s Tyrese Maxey, Denver’s Jamal Murray, Milwaukee’s Bobby Portis, and Miami’s Norman Powell. Notably, Booker and Lillard have both won the contest previously, in 2018 and in back-to-back years 2023 and 2024 respectively.

The contest will air live on NBC and streaming service Peacock on Saturday, February 14, starting at 5 p.m. Eastern.

Mitchell’s Track Record and All-Star Appearances

Currently in his fourth All-Star season with Cleveland, Mitchell is shooting 37.9% on three-pointers this season. His average of 3.7 made threes per game ranks second only to Golden State’s Stephen Curry, who will not participate in this year’s event. This marks Mitchell’s third appearance in the 3-Point Contest; he previously participated in 2021, won by Curry, and in 2024, when Lillard took home the title.

All-Star Game Participation and Broadcast Details

Aside from the 3-Point Contest, Mitchell will play in the revamped All-Star Game scheduled for Sunday, February 15, at the Intuit Dome, home of the L.A. Clippers. The game tips off at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NBC—returning to the network for the first time since 2002—and streamed on Peacock.

Mitchell’s Role Amid Cleveland’s Challenging Season

Despite a difficult season for the Cavaliers, Mitchell has been the team’s driving force in 49 starts, averaging a career-best 28.9 points per game with a 48.5% shooting efficiency. Earning his seventh All-Star selection and fourth as a Cavalier, he joins LeBron James, Brad Daugherty, Mark Price, and Kyrie Irving as the only players with four or more All-Star nods while playing for Cleveland.

Additional Cleveland Players in All-Star Weekend Events

The Cavaliers organization has other representatives during the All-Star festivities. Jaylon Tyson, a second-year wing, will compete in the Rising Stars Challenge, a mini-tournament featuring four teams competing in three games following the All-Star Celebrity Game on February 13 at 9 p.m., broadcast on Peacock. Additionally, Killian Hayes and Norchad Omier from the Cavaliers’ G League affiliate, Cleveland Charge, will take part in the NBA G League Next Up Game on February 15 at 2:30 p.m., streaming on the NBA Channel and free ad-supported services including Roku, Samsung, Tubi, Pluto, and DirecTV.
