Anh Phoong Makes NBA History with Kings Jersey Sponsorship

Attorney and entrepreneur Anh Phoong has long been a familiar figure in Northern California through her widely recognized slogan, Something wrong? Call Anh Phoong. Now, she has made a historic breakthrough as Anh Phoong Law becomes the first Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) woman-owned business to sponsor a patch on Sacramento Kings NBA jerseys. This milestone, announced this year, highlights not only Phoong’s business success but also her dedication to amplifying women’s empowerment through a highly visible platform.

Origins of a Marketing Breakthrough

The phrase that made Anh Phoong a household name was born out of a relaxed brainstorming session at home with her husband. The catchy line stuck quickly and remains central to her firm’s brand. Phoong recalls,

“It’s funny because it’s one of those things where when you hear it, you’re like, ‘Oh, that’s so cool.’ But it’s catchy,”

reflecting on the slogan’s lasting appeal. She added,

“We always talk about this one night in the hot tub. We’re just bouncing off ideas,”

and credited her husband for the creation:

“And he was like, ‘Something wrong? Call Anh Phoong.’ … And I woke up like, ‘That’s it. Can’t get it out of my head.’ And so I always had to give him credit.”

Roots in Family and Hard Work

Phoong’s path to success is deeply influenced by her upbringing as the daughter of Vietnamese refugees who arrived in the United States with very little. She describes her parents’ experience as a source of motivation, stating,

“My parents… if you heard a lot of these Vietnam refugee immigrant stories—came with nothing, came on a boat, came with nothing.”

Their sacrifices and resilience have shaped her work ethic and business outlook.

“I think a lot of what I’ve learned in life and just about business and hard work and ethics really stems from where my parents came from,”

she said.

“They had to work hard and make a living.”

The Sponsorship’s Message Beyond Advertising

The collaboration with the Sacramento Kings extends beyond branding to championing women’s empowerment. As a mother of three, Phoong emphasizes the deliberate message behind this collaboration.

“It wasn’t just about being on a jersey,”

she explained.

“The patch is going to represent women empowerment.”

This commitment aligns with her longstanding mission of visibility and recognition for women in her industry and community.

“From day one, putting the billboards out there, it’s so important to make sure women are known and seen and visible,”

Phoong stated.

“We have voices… that were heard—putting ourselves out there.”

Community Impact Through Support for Women’s Causes

A key element of the jersey sponsorship involves giving back to local organizations that support women. A portion of each jersey sold with the Anh Phoong patch will be donated to two nonprofits: Single Mom Strong and My Sister’s House. Phoong highlighted the critical services offered by My Sister’s House, noting it provides assistance related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking. She stressed the importance of this aspect by saying,

“That’s exactly why I did the sponsorship. As much as it looks like, ‘Oh, it’s highlighting the law,’ it’s all highlighting other women, other nonprofits—using my platform to benefit others.”

Future Plans to Foster Women’s Empowerment

Looking ahead, Anh Phoong Law plans to continue its efforts to elevate women beyond the NBA season. Upcoming initiatives include organizing girls’ basketball clinics and hosting a Women’s Empowerment Day, further reinforcing Phoong’s vow to inspire and support women in meaningful ways. This sponsorship and its affiliated programs mark a steady expansion in Phoong’s dedication to community involvement, signaling a long-term commitment to creating opportunities for women to thrive.
