Giannis Antetokounmpo Eyes Return as Soon as Feb 20

Milwaukee Bucks’ star player Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to return to action this season after missing several weeks due to injury. According to ESPN’s Jamal Collier, Antetokounmpo could be back on the court as soon as February 20, shortly after the All-Star break, aiming for the earlier end of his recovery timeline.

Antetokounmpo suffered a right calf strain on January 23, marking his second calf injury this season. Initially, his absence was projected to last between four to six weeks. Although the Bucks have not officially confirmed a return date, ESPN sources indicate that Giannis is optimistic about resuming play closer to the four-week mark, aligning with the team’s first game following the All-Star break.

Progress in Recovery and Expectations for Return

During his appearance on ESPN’s NBA Today, Jamal Collier provided insight into Antetokounmpo’s status, stating,

“Giannis is going to play again this season perhaps as soon as sometime later this month after the all star break. February 20 is about 4 weeks from that 4-6 week timeline that he initially laid out and my sources are saying that Giannis is hoping to trend on the shorter end of that timeline.”

Challenges of the 2025-26 Season for Antetokounmpo and the Bucks

The current NBA season has been turbulent for Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. Amid ongoing trade rumors before the February 5 deadline, the Greek Freak remained with the team but the Bucks might reconsider trade options in the offseason. Without their leading player for prolonged stretches, the Bucks have struggled in the Eastern Conference and are positioned 12th with a 21-30 record.

Despite missing several games, Antetokounmpo has performed at an elite level in the 30 games he has played, averaging 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game. His shooting efficiency remains strong, boasting 64.5 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Potential Impact of Antetokounmpo’s Return on Bucks’ Playoff Hopes

A timely return for Antetokounmpo could provide a crucial lift for Milwaukee as they chase a postseason berth. The Bucks are seeking to bolster their position either for the playoffs or at least securing a spot in the Play-In tournament. Their next game is a significant rematch against the Orlando Magic, who currently hold a positive record of 28-24, underscoring the importance of having their star player back in action.
