Cooper Flagg Injury Update: Out Through All-Star Break

Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg, a leading candidate for NBA Rookie of the Year, has suffered a left midfoot sprain and will be sidelined through the All-Star break, the team announced Wednesday. Flagg, 19, sustained the injury during Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns, with an MRI confirming the sprain on Wednesday.

Injury Timeline and Expected Return

According to ESPN, Flagg is projected to return when the Mavericks begin the second half of their season on February 20, facing the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minneapolis. The 2025 No. 1 overall draft pick will miss Dallas’ upcoming road game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, as well as the Rising Stars Game scheduled for Friday during All-Star weekend in Inglewood, California.

Flagg’s Season Performance Before the Injury

Flagg has emerged as a standout rookie, averaging 20.4 points per game alongside 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists over 34.1 minutes in 49 games this season. His scoring ability was highlighted by a 49-point game on January 29 against the Charlotte Hornets, setting an NBA record for the highest single-game point total by a teenager.

Implications for the Mavericks and Upcoming Schedule

Flagg’s absence leaves a significant gap in Dallas’ lineup during the crucial All-Star weekend period and the subsequent stretch of regular-season play. His return in mid-February is expected to boost the Mavericks as they prepare for the second half of their campaign and pursue a strong playoff position.
