Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA season following ACL reconstruction surgery, the team confirmed Wednesday. Irving, who has not appeared in games this season, sustained a torn ACL in his left knee on March 3 and underwent surgery on March 26 in an effort to restore his health.
Irving’s Response and Support to Fellow Athletes
In a statement, Irving reflected on the difficult decision to end his season early and expressed gratitude for the support he has received.
“This decision wasn’t easy, but it’s the right one,”
Irving said.
“I am grateful for the Mavericks organization, my teammates and our fans for their continued support throughout the process. I am looking forward to coming back stronger next season. The belief and drive I have inside only grows.”
He also extended encouragement to others facing similar injuries, stating,
“And I wanted to send a huge shoutout to all of my brothers and sisters out there who’ve torn their ACL or gotten injured doing what they love to do every day. Thank you for the inspiration. No fear!”
Irving’s Performance and the Mavericks’ Current Standing
Before this setback, Irving had an impressive 2024-25 season, averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists over 50 games. His absence leaves a significant gap in the Mavericks lineup, who currently hold a 19-35 record and are ranked 12th in the Western Conference.
The team has struggled with a nine-game losing streak but remains optimistic as they prepare to face the Minnesota Timberwolves, who hold the sixth spot in the conference, in an upcoming match in Minneapolis.
Team Dynamics and Future Outlook
The Mavericks have emphasized that Irving will stay actively involved with the team during his rehabilitation. This engagement underscores the organization’s commitment to maintaining strong cohesion and ensuring his smooth return next season. Meanwhile, other team events, including Cooper Flagg’s recent ankle injury and strategic moves like trading Anthony Davis to the Wizards, continue to shape the Mavericks’ evolving roster.
As Irving focuses on recovery, the Mavericks look ahead with determination, aiming to rebound from current challenges and build towards a stronger future in the NBA.
