The worry is that he’s only playing 20 minutes a night. Is he going to get enough minutes? But again, if there’s no Isaiah Jackson, if there is no Zubac, maybe we can get a few more 30-minute nights, and he’s got to get hot from three at some point. I’m not expecting multiple of these, but I think we could get a single Jay Huff 30-point game.
Prior to this season, Huff had only twice reached 20 points in a game, but he has already achieved six such performances, including a career-high 29 points against the New Orleans Pelicans on January 16. His ability to quickly heat up from long range makes him a dangerous threat when he finds his rhythm, and there is growing anticipation that he might cross the 30-point threshold at least once before the season concludes.

Despite Huff’s recent starting opportunities, his full-time role in the starting lineup appears to be nearing its end with Zubac’s return. As a North Carolina native, Huff brings valuable skills, but he lacks the consistency, athletic ceiling, and speed required to be a long-term starting center on a championship-contending squad. His foot speed and overall game do not entirely fit the Pacers’ strategic system when matched against elite talents like Nikola Jokic or Victor Wembanyamas.
By limiting his minutes and focusing his contributions on spacing the floor and protecting the rim, the Pacers can maximize Huff’s impact while minimizing exposure to his weaknesses. This reduced role allows him to provide valuable scoring bursts and shot-blocking off the bench, contributing in a way that complements the team’s overall structure.
