The Minnesota Timberwolves waived Johnny Juzang on Wednesday, ending the 24-year-old’s time with the organization during the 2025-2026 NBA season. Juzang was signed on a two-way contract and spent most of the year on the Timberwolves’ roster, but his departure now opens a two-way player spot for the team. His release comes as the Timberwolves continue to adjust their roster ahead of the trade deadline and upcoming games.
Chris Finch Comments on Juzang’s Time with the Team
Following the waiver announcement, head coach Chris Finch shared his thoughts on Juzang’s contribution and development. Juzang was brought in for specific roles, and while Finch had hoped for increased chances over time, those opportunities did not fully materialize.
“Johnny was great for what we brought him here for. We thought there might be more opportunities for him along the way. You know as a two-way I think regrettably we kind of burned through the games early on… he has a high-level skill being able to shoot the ball, he’s played enough NBA minutes that I’m sure he’s going to continue to have opportunities somewhere else, maybe down the road that’s here. He was nothing but a great pro and a joy to coach every single day.”

Juzang’s Limited Playing Time and Two-Way Contract Restrictions
Under NBA rules, players on two-way contracts can only appear in up to 50 NBA games before a standard contract is required to remain on the roster. Juzang appeared in 49 games for Minnesota this season, fueling speculation he might be signed to a full deal. However, instead of reaching that milestone, he was briefly assigned to the Iowa Wolves of the G League but did not play in any games there. Ultimately, his court time remained sparse, totaling just 88 minutes over 21 appearances, mostly during low-stakes moments late in games.
During his time on the team, Juzang recorded 43 points, 17 rebounds, and six assists in limited action. Despite his potential and shooting ability, he never secured a steady role in the Timberwolves’ rotation.
Roster Implications and Next Steps for the Timberwolves
With Juzang waived, Minnesota now has an available two-way contract slot and an open roster spot following their recent moves. The Timberwolves currently have two two-way players: Enrique Freeman and Rocco Zikarsky. The organization may explore the buyout market to add veteran presence or cover their needs before the regular season progresses further.
Juzang’s release marks a turning point in his professional journey, and given Finch’s remarks, the former UCLA standout could find opportunities elsewhere in the NBA or G League in the near future.
