Newly acquired Washington Wizards star Anthony Davis recently spoke on Monumental Sports Network about his excitement and high expectations for his upcoming frontcourt collaboration with Alex Sarr. Davis highlighted their complementary skills and the potential impact this duo could have on the team’s future success.
Davis Highlights Defensive and Offensive Strengths of Sarr
Davis praised Sarr’s versatility, noting,
“I feel like I’ve always been very successful with another big. The good thing about Alex is that he can space the floor, and on the defensive end it’s going to be insane,”
Davis said.
“Being able to guard the pick and rolls, switch on guards and guard them, rim protection — I think he’s second in the league in blocks right now, blocks per game. He’s young, so he’s only going to get better.”
He also credited his own experience gleaned from veteran big men, stating,
“I just hope that the wisdom that I’ve learned from the greats I’ve been around — Dwight [Howard], JaVale McGee, Tyson Chandler, Marc Gasol — all the guys that helped me can carry over to help them as well.”
The Emerging Frontcourt Threat for the Wizards
Alongside star guard Trae Young, Davis’ acquisition marks a new strategic vision for Washington’s frontcourt, centered on him and Sarr forming a strong partnership. Sarr, a French player in his sophomore NBA season, has shown impressive all-around ability with averages of 17.2 points on nearly 50 percent shooting, 7.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.0 blocks over 41 games so far.
Potential Impact and Future Outlook for the Pairing
Once Davis returns to full health and the 2026-27 season commences, this twin tower combination of Davis and Sarr is expected to become one of the most formidable frontcourt duos in the NBA. Their pairing could play a critical role in restoring the Washington Wizards to playoff contention and relevance in the league.
