Anthony Edwards Says Norman Powell Living in Miami ‘Looks Like a Vibe’

During an All-Star weekend media event, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards was seen speaking with Miami Heat guard Norman Powell about how Powell, an 11-year NBA veteran, has adjusted to life in Miami. Edwards expressed interest in Powell’s experience as he settles into his new home, highlighting a sense of admiration for Powell’s transition.

Edwards’ Success and Commitment in Minnesota

Edwards, 24, is flourishing in Minnesota after signing a five-year, $244.6 million rookie extension that will keep him with the Timberwolves through the 2028-29 season. Now a six-year pro, Edwards has become the driving force behind Minnesota’s recent success, guiding them to back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances. This season, Edwards is averaging a career-high 29.5 points per game, helping the Timberwolves hold a strong 35-23 record and sit sixth in the Western Conference standings.

Respect for Miami Heat and Coach Erik Spoelstra

Although Edwards is fully committed to Minnesota, he openly appreciates the culture and leadership he sees in Miami. He respects the Heat organization and coach Erik Spoelstra, who recently served as an assistant coach for the Team USA squad that won gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Edwards was the fourth-leading scorer on that Olympic team.

“He’s been dope man, bringing a lot of energy and the ‘Heat Culture,’”

Edwards said in August 2023 to Complex Sports (h/t Jayden Armant for Miami Heat on SI).

“It’s exciting to see. His first day with the scout (team), I was like ‘I see what they mean when they say Heat Culture’. They come out with a lot of energy and are right to the point and super precise with the details.”

Looking Ahead: Edwards’ Drive for an NBA Title

Currently, Edwards is focused on leading the Timberwolves to their first NBA Finals appearance in franchise history. His admiration for Miami’s style and culture remains, particularly as Powell settles into his new role on the Heat, which Edwards describes as a “vibe.” This mutual respect between the two guards reflects the broader energy and competitive spirit that defines the 2024 NBA season.
