Power Forward, Jontay is marking a new chapter in his professional basketball journey!” the SuperHawks stated.

Background on Porter’s NBA Ban and Gambling Scandal

Porter was banned from the NBA after investigators found he disclosed confidential information to sports bettors and intentionally limited his playing time during games to affect wagers. Between January and March 2034, he placed at least 13 bets on NBA games, using another person’s online betting account while traveling with the Raptors or their NBA G League affiliate, Raptors 905.

The wagers ranged from $15 to $22,000, totaling $54,094. Porter’s betting results showed a profit of $21,965 from winnings of $76,059. Despite these violations, the league confirmed that he never bet on games in which he personally participated.

Implications of Porter’s USBL Signing

This signing provides Porter with an opportunity to continue playing professionally despite his NBA ban, highlighting the evolving paths athletes may take after league sanctions. The USBL’s relaunch season, featuring new and returning teams, aims to present a competitive platform for players like Porter seeking to extend their basketball careers outside the NBA.

Seattle SuperHawks’ acquisition of a high-profile former NBA player could also bring increased attention and credibility to the league’s rebirth, influencing fan engagement and the league’s future prospects.
