Trae Young Ejected Before Playing First Game with Wizards

Trae Young’s introduction to the Washington Wizards took an unexpected turn on Monday night when he was ejected during their 123-118 defeat to the Houston Rockets, even though he has not yet been cleared to play. The star guard, who remained in street clothes on the sidelines, was involved in an incident that led to his removal before he could make his on-court debut for Washington.

Details of the Altercation Leading to the Ejection

The ejection stemmed from a scuffle late in the third quarter when Tari Eason of the Rockets pushed Jamir Watkins while advancing the ball. The aggressive contact triggered a brief confrontation involving players and coaches, which was quickly separated. Young entered the court to argue with an official near the baseline, and this action resulted in an automatic ejection. Eason was also ejected after receiving two technical fouls, while Watkins and Sharife Cooper were each given a single technical foul for their involvement.

Young’s Injury and Trade Situation

Young has been out of action since December 27 due to knee and quadriceps injuries. Having played only 10 games this season, he has averaged 19.3 points and 8.9 assists so far. He was traded to the Wizards this January from the Atlanta Hawks, with CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert moving in the opposite direction. Washington anticipates Young’s first game in their uniform will be on Thursday against the Utah Jazz.

Young’s Response to the Incident

Following his ejection, Young expressed his determination on social media, saying,

“Don’t expect me to get ejected too many more times, D.C. .. but I’m definitely bringing that energy & competitiveness when I’m back for my brothers!”

This statement reflects his frustration but also his commitment to the team once able to play.
