On Thursday night in Washington, the Utah Jazz ended a seven-game skid with a 122-112 win over the Washington Wizards, spoiling Trae Young’s much-anticipated debut for his new team. Young, the four-time All-Star who had missed more than 16 weeks this season, managed just 12 points in his first game with the Wizards following his trade from the Atlanta Hawks.
Bailey’s Breakout Performance Leads Utah
Rookie Ace Bailey was the standout for the Jazz, scoring a career-high 32 points while becoming the youngest player in franchise history to tally at least 30 points in a single game. His scoring surge was complemented by Isaiah Collier, who added a personal best 27 points along with 11 assists. Bailey’s sharp shooting was evident as he made seven of eleven three-pointers and finished 12 of 19 from the field overall.
With key players like Lauri Markkanen, Jaren Jackson Jr., Walker Kessler, and Keyonte George all sidelined, the Jazz depended heavily on Bailey and Collier to provide the offensive output.
Coach Hardy Comments on Bailey’s Effort and Growth
Jazz head coach Will Hardy praised Bailey’s offensive display as his best of the season, noting his ability to read defenses and capitalize on open three-point opportunities.
This is Ace’s best game as a pro on the offensive side,
Hardy said.
A lot of it had to do with the 3-point line. He made a lot of good reads, especially coming off handoffs on the second side and finding those pocket 3s and knocking them down tonight, so I was happy for him. It’s a good win for our group.
Hardy also addressed areas for improvement as Bailey gains more experience.
One that stands out in particular — it seems like a small thing — fouling jump shooters,
Hardy explained.
We’d like to try to eliminate three or four plays a night that, as you go on in your career, they’re just sort of no-nos.
But Ace’s conditioning has gotten so much better, he’s working really hard on his body, he’s learning a lot and he’s learning on the fly, and so I think he’s handled himself great throughout this season.
Looking Ahead for the Jazz
With 19 games left in the regular season, Utah aims to continue building momentum as they travel to Milwaukee to face Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks on Saturday. Bailey’s breakout night and the team’s ability to overcome missing key scorers could prove crucial for their remaining schedule.
