Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has strongly advocated for the team to secure wide receiver George Pickens on a long-term contract, emphasizing Pickens’ growing importance in the offense. Prescott highlighted the necessity of maintaining continuity and continuing progress on offense, even as the Cowboys focus on strengthening their defense.
“We know we got to get that (defensive) side of the ball right,”
Prescott said, via The Athletic.
“But we got to make sure that we aren’t complacent with what we’ve done on our side of the ball. We’ve got to get one of our guys signed and make sure that we take a big step on offense as well.”
Although his initial comments were somewhat ambiguous, Prescott clarified that he was referring specifically to Pickens, an essential component of the team’s offensive strategy. He expressed confidence in the Cowboys’ management but reiterated his willingness to get involved if necessary to ensure Pickens remains with the club.
“The guy out here,” Prescott explained.
“The guy out here who doesn’t have a contract. It doesn’t matter, whichever way that they got to do it, he’s an important piece of this offense, an important piece of what we’re trying to do. I’ll leave it to those guys. Obviously if I need to get involved, I’ve said it before, I will. But (I’m) confident in (Cowboys owner Jerry Jones) and everybody who makes those decisions and how much he means to us.”
Prescott praised Pickens for stepping up in the absence of fellow wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, proving himself as a true number one receiver, not merely a complementary player.
“You really couldn’t (imagine that he’d have that type of season),”
Prescott said.
“It’s credit to him. It’s credit to Jerry. It’s credit to the front office going and making that, making that deal. You get a guy like that and you’re just looking for help for CeeDee (Lamb). … You have a whole offseason, you’re planning for how to attack, and then (Lamb gets injured), then this guy really just steps up and comes into his own and shows us how great of a player he can be and allows us to see we have two No. 1 (wide receivers). It was a blessing for us. It’s the main reason we gotta keep him. He does more than just open it up for CeeDee. He’s a game-changer himself, and we’ve got to use that.”
Key Defensive Coaches Considering Future Amid Offseason Moves
There is speculation about the future of several prominent NFL defensive coaches as teams prepare for the coming seasons. Notably, Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is expected to return in 2026 despite seriously considering retirement. Analysts suggest Fangio’s situation this offseason mirrors last year’s uncertainty but currently lean towards him coaching another year.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the pattern of Fangio’s retirement deliberations continues, yet the prevailing view is that he will remain on the Eagles’ coaching staff for the upcoming campaign.

Giants’ Brian Burns Reflects on Significant Improvement in NY
New York Giants pass rusher Brian Burns has highlighted his strong performance this season, marking clear advancement since his move from Carolina. Burns credited his consistent preparation and commitment to the team’s schemes as key factors contributing to his success.
I’ve been trying to maintain and stay consistent with my process [this season] and the results showed,
Burns shared, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
Being able to play within the scheme and still get the results that I wanted, that I needed, just showed the preparation that I put in throughout the week. Just being able to allow the calls to work for me instead of trying to step outside the box, outside the schemes to make a play, I just let the calls work for me and it happened.
Burns’ disciplined approach reveals the importance of teamwork and adherence to coaching strategy in elevating his game and benefiting the Giants’ defense.
Giants Target Coaching Staff Enhancements Amid Offseason Changes
The New York Giants have expressed strong interest in bolstering their coaching staff this offseason, although not all sought-after candidates have joined. The Giants pursued LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., largely due to his previous time working with quarterback Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss. However, Weis chose to follow Lane Kiffin’s move to LSU instead.
To strengthen the defensive line coaching, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reports that the Giants are expected to hire Matt Robinson, who previously coached outside linebackers for the Baltimore Ravens, as an assistant defensive line coach under head coach John Harbaugh’s staff. This addition aims to deepen the Giants’ defensive expertise and support the team’s ongoing development.

Significance of Brian Burns’ Progress and Team Strategies Ahead
Brian Burns’ breakout performance for the Giants underscores the impact a player’s disciplined approach and adherence to coaching can have on individual success and team defense. His steadiness and growth signal that the Giants could be building a stronger defensive core moving forward. Meanwhile, coaching decisions, like the anticipated addition of Matt Robinson, illustrate the organization’s commitment to refining their staff and supporting young talent.
At the same time, the Cowboys’ attempts to secure George Pickens on a long-term deal reflect broader strategic priorities across the NFL, where offense continuity and defensive upgrades remain key to postseason aspirations. As the offseason progresses, teams balancing contract negotiations and staff adjustments will likely shape the competitive landscape of the upcoming NFL season.
While Vic Fangio did seriously entertain retiring as recently as last week, my understanding that is no longer the case and that the #Eagles are confident in his return at this point after much persuasion.
He's expected to be back as defensive coordinator next season.

There was a strong desire from the #Giants to get Charlie Weiss Jr. to New York, specifically for Jaxson Dart. The young QB loves him from their time together at Ole Miss. Ultimately, Weiss didn’t want to leave LSU.
