Tommy DeVito Reflects on Giants Before Super Bowl Showdown

Tommy DeVito, who started his NFL career as a popular undrafted free agent with the New York Giants, is poised to become a Super Bowl champion this Sunday. DeVito is currently the third-string quarterback for the New England Patriots, who face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 60.

DeVito Shares Memories of His Time in New York

At the Super Bowl LX Opening Night on Monday, DeVito spoke with the New York Post and reflected on his experience with the Giants. He described his era there as unique, saying,

“That was cool and fun, but that’s a Jersey, New York thing, if you will,”

and added,

“That’s going to be tied to that. Mainly, because I’m from there. That was one of the most special teams in my life — and I love it every time I go back — but this is a different version of myself, and I’m happy with that.”

Performance and Progression with the Giants and Patriots

In the 2023 season, DeVito appeared 12 times for the Giants, starting in eight games. His record as a starter was 3-5, throwing for 1,358 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. After the Giants trimmed their roster in August, DeVito was waived but quickly claimed by the Patriots. Despite not taking any snaps behind starters Drake Maye and Josh Dobbs, he remains an important part of the Patriots’ quarterback depth.

The Patriots’ Underdog Status in the Super Bowl

Heading into Sunday’s matchup, the Patriots are considered underdogs against Seattle, with a DraftKings moneyline of +195. While DeVito will be inactive for the game, his presence on the roster during the Super Bowl marks a significant milestone in his career. The Patriots’ challenging path emphasizes the uncertainty and high stakes of this championship game.

The Impact of DeVito’s Journey and What Lies Ahead

DeVito’s progression from an undrafted free agent to a member of a Super Bowl team highlights the unpredictable nature of NFL careers. His reflections show a maturity and appreciation for his New York roots, while also looking forward to his ongoing growth with New England. As the Patriots prepare for a tough contest against the Seahawks, DeVito’s journey stands as a testament to perseverance and hope in professional football.
