Morgan Moses’ Unbelievable Journey from Jets to Patriots Star

In March, Morgan Moses, a seasoned offensive lineman formerly with the New York Jets, signed with the New England Patriots, a team undergoing a rebuilding phase after a disappointing 2024 season marred by just four wins and a coaching transition. Moses’ move marked a pivotal moment in his career, as he sought a fresh start with a franchise known for its winning tradition and strong leadership.

Moses had experienced two separate spells with the Jets (2021 and 2024), during which the team struggled to a combined 9-25 record. His decision to join the Patriots was driven not only by their legacy but by the values and relationships he encountered during the free agency period.

From Rivalry to Right Tackle Starter in the Super Bowl

This coming Sunday, Moses will start as the Patriots’ right tackle in Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks, a dramatic turnaround from his time facing New England as an opponent. Having encountered legendary Patriots squads while playing for the Jets, Washington, and Baltimore, Moses reflected on finally being part of the franchise on the winning side of the rivalry.

“I’ve never been on the good side,”

Moses admitted,

“But being here it’s been amazing. As an older guy, 34, in Year 12, I’ve learned more about football this year than I have learned in a long time… It’s been a great deal, man.”

The Influence of Leadership and Team Chemistry

Moses cited the key role of Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, whose conversations went beyond tactics and touched on family and personal values, influencing Moses’ choice to join the team. The dynamic within the Patriots locker room, particularly the positive interactions with quarterback Drake Maye, clearly affirmed the fit.

“I knew it was a perfect match,”

Moses said.

His role extended beyond his technical responsibilities on the offensive line to serving as a mentor and veteran leader for younger players. At the Jets and now in New England, Moses provided guidance to promising rookies opposite him, such as Olu Fashanu and Will Campbell.

“Whenever you are a rookie coming into the league you always wonder what the veterans in the room are going to be like toward you and how they are going to treat you,”

Campbell explained.

“He’s been nothing but helpful not only to me but to every single person in that room. Obviously he has so much experience on the field but he is just a great human being in general, a great leader, a great father. I try to learn as much from him as I can.”

Moses embraced this mentorship role, recalling how his own leadership was shaped by veteran Trent Williams.

“I had a great veteran leader in Trent Williams who did the same thing for me and the one thing he asked from me was to pass it down,”

Moses shared.

“If you can help others in the room then the room will get better and eventually I will get better, especially in the offensive line room, then the sky is the limit.”

Reflection on Perseverance Through Adversity

Despite the struggles endured at the Jets, including battling through a knee injury that led to offseason surgery, Moses expressed gratitude for that phase of his career. His persistence and resilience laid the foundation for his renewed success with the Patriots.

“I mean, do you know who I played for last year?”

Moses joked with a smile, pointing to his tough tenure in New York.

“It’s been a hell of a journey, man, I wouldn’t change it for anything.”

The Road Ahead for Moses and the Patriots

Morgan Moses’ unexpected rise with the Patriots embodies the transformative potential of experience, leadership, and fit within a team’s culture. As he prepares to protect the quarterback in the Super Bowl, the narrative of his career underscores how adversity can precede opportunity. The Patriots appear poised to climb further with veterans like Moses leading the way, signaling promising prospects beyond this championship game.
