Stefon Diggs, the former Buffalo Bills wide receiver now playing for the New England Patriots, is headed to his first Super Bowl appearance. However, his achievement is overshadowed by fresh legal challenges as he approaches the game against the Seattle Seahawks, including a recent defamation lawsuit and potential criminal charges.
Defamation Claim Filed Against Diggs Involving Alleged Ferrari Theft
The new civil lawsuit against Stefon Diggs arose from an incident dating back nearly two years concerning a stolen vehicle. A man who previously worked for Diggs alleges in court documents that in July 2024, Diggs asked him to organize the transportation of his Ferrari from Miami to New York, and eventually to Houston, where the vehicle was reportedly stolen.
The complainant insists that law enforcement concluded the theft was carried out by third parties through an elaborate operation. Despite this, the former employee claims Diggs accused him among their acquaintances of having stolen the car, leading to serious reputational harm.
He denies any involvement in the theft and was never charged with a crime. The plaintiff further asserts that
“Stefon’s false allegations caused his concierge and consulting business to suffer.”
On top of the financial impact, the man states he endured ongoing harassment stemming from the accusations made by Diggs.
Felony Charges Pending Against Diggs Related to December Incident
In addition to the defamation suit, Diggs faces felony criminal allegations tied to an episode on December 2 involving a former personal chef. Authorities allege Diggs assaulted the chef amid a disagreement over payment.

Diggs and his defense team asked for a postponement of his arraignment until February 13, which is five days after the Super Bowl date, and a judge approved this delay. This adjustment also means that any disciplinary action from the NFL will be deferred beyond the current season.
As noted by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk,
“It was already unlikely that the NFL would place Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs on the Commissioner Exempt list (i.e., paid leave) before the Super Bowl. It’s now virtually certain it won’t happen.”
Diggs Denies All Allegations and Plans to Clear His Name
Stefon Diggs has strongly rejected the criminal accusations. In a statement conveyed through his attorney David Meier, Diggs maintains his innocence and contends that the claims are without foundation.
“They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur,”
Meier stated.
“The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.”
As Diggs prepares to compete in the Super Bowl, these legal matters pose significant challenges that could affect his career and reputation. The outcomes of both the defamation lawsuit and the criminal case will be closely watched, influencing not only his future with the Patriots but also his standing within the NFL and the broader public.
