Micah Parsons Reveals Shocking Near-Trade Before Packers Deal

In one of the most talked-about moves before the 2025 NFL season, Green Bay Packers secured pass rusher Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys in a high-profile trade. Despite his impressive debut with the Packers, which ended prematurely due to a torn ACL, Parsons recently disclosed surprising details about an alternate trade path that almost sent him to the Philadelphia Eagles instead. This revelation highlights the intense competition among NFL teams vying for Parsons, a top defensive talent.

Details Emerge About the Close Call With Philadelphia

Parsons explained in a recent podcast appearance that negotiations with the Eagles were advanced, with Dallas potentially receiving Jalen Carter and draft picks in return.

“So, to be honest with you, bro, it was very close,”

Parsons stated.

“It was very close. Eagles before the Jaelan Phillips, before all of them, it was me. And I was really about to come.”

This indicates how serious the Eagles were about acquiring him before plans shifted.

The linebacker further clarified the key factor that swayed his decision away from Philadelphia. He emphasized the importance of playing alongside Jalen Carter, a defensive tackle he respects deeply.

“But there was one person I had to play with and if he was gone, I didn’t want to be there and that was Jalen Carter,”

Parsons shared.

“They wanted a D-tackle. And they wanted to trade me, plus some picks. I don’t really care about the picks, but I’m going to play next to JC, you feel me? Yeah. Sorry Cowboys fans, it really almost happened. I feel like the trajectory would’ve changed.”

Parsons’ Impact on Packers and Injury Setback

Ultimately, the Packers completed the trade by sending star defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round picks to Dallas. Parsons’ arrival immediately bolstered Green Bay’s defense, as he appeared in 14 games and recorded 41 tackles, 12.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a pass defended. His season, however, was cut short by a torn ACL, which significantly weakened the Packers’ defensive unit in his absence.

Despite the injury, expectations remain high for Parsons’ return. While he is unlikely to be ready at the season opener, projections place his comeback around Week 4, which could reinvigorate Green Bay’s defensive efforts.
