Brock Purdy Praises Seahawks: “They’re a Hell of a Team”

In a surprising turn during the 2025 NFL season, the Seattle Seahawks emerged as strong contenders for the Super Bowl after defeating the San Francisco 49ers twice, including a crucial divisional playoff game on January 17, 2026, at Lumen Field in Seattle. Brock Purdy, quarterback for the 49ers, joined teammate Christian McCaffrey in acknowledging the Seahawks’ dominance, highlighting the challenge the Seahawks presented throughout the season.

Seattle Seahawks’ Roster Changes Pay Off

The Seahawks surprised many analysts who had predicted they’d miss postseason play following a series of significant roster adjustments. They parted ways with longtime quarterback Geno Smith and star wide receiver DK Metcalf, acquiring Sam Darnold as their new signal-caller. These bold moves led Seattle to clinch the NFC’s top seed with an impressive 14-3 record, positioning them just one victory away from winning their first Super Bowl title in 12 years.

49ers Players Reflect on Losses to Seattle

Christian McCaffrey was frank about the Seahawks’ superiority over the 49ers.

“They’re a hell of a team. You know, they beat us in both those games. They definitely had our number in both those games. We had to play better, we needed to limit our mistakes,”

he told Fox News Digital on Radio Row. Purdy echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the Seahawks’ coaching and talent.

“They’re a really well-coached team. Obviously, they got talent across the board, their defense is good, Sam leading the offense with Klint Kubiak,”

Purdy said.

“They’ve done a really good job, man. They’ve earned it. They’re a team that we have to obviously be ready for every single week, or every time we play them. Across the board, a really good team.”

Challenges Faced by the 49ers During a Demanding Schedule

McCaffrey pointed out the difficulties faced by the 49ers late in the season, citing a condensed schedule that put extra pressure on a team already grappling with injuries.

“I don’t want to make excuses, but the NFL did put us on three short weeks at the end of a season when we had a Week 14 bye. So they didn’t do us any favors in that,”

McCaffrey explained.

“When you have so many injuries and you’re kind of decimated already, and then you put a team like that on short weeks, it makes it more challenging.”

Despite this, he conceded the Seahawks earned their victories fairly.

“But at the same time, those guys beat us, they beat us in every facet of the game. And if we want to win, we got to play better. Simple as that.”

Key Players and Upcoming Matchup Highlight Seahawks’ Strength

Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the NFL with 1,793 receiving yards and 119 receptions, including 10 touchdowns, exemplifying Seattle’s offensive prowess. Sam Darnold’s leadership marked him as the only quarterback in NFL history to secure 14+ wins in back-to-back seasons with two different teams. The Seahawks’ next challenge is a showdown against the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the home stadium and familiar turf for Purdy and McCaffrey, set for Sunday’s game that will test Seattle’s championship aspirations.

The Broader Impact of Seattle’s Rise This Season

The Seahawks’ transformation from offseason underdogs to NFC leaders underscores how strategic roster changes and effective coaching can drastically alter a team’s fortunes. Their dominance over a strong division rival like the 49ers not only shifts playoff dynamics but also signals a potential power shift in the NFC heading into the Super Bowl. As Seattle advances, their prepared, well-rounded roster and consistent performances suggest they are a formidable opponent for any contender, promising an intense playoff run ahead.
