Joe Burrow’s Ex-Teammate Slams James Pearce Jr. After Arrest

Atlanta Falcons rookie linebacker James Pearce Jr. was arrested by Miami Police in Florida on Saturday after an alleged domestic dispute, prompting sharp criticism from Breiden Fehoko, a former LSU teammate of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Fehoko expressed strong disapproval of Pearce Jr.’s actions, stating the young player should face jail time for the incident.

Authorities responded to reports of a conflict between Pearce Jr. and a woman in Doral. It was reported Pearce Jr. fled the scene, crashing his vehicle near the intersection of Northwest 103rd Avenue and 66th Street, where police eventually took him into custody. The woman involved was identified as Rickea Jackson, a standout player for the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA.

Ex-Teammate Calls for Severe Consequences for Domestic Violence

Fehoko took to social media to voice his frustration with Pearce Jr.’s conduct, labeling him “soft” and demanding accountability for allegedly assaulting a woman. In one post, Fehoko wrote,

“Hitting women make you tough? Soft as a mf. I’m sick of hearing the ‘we gotta get these young men help’ man how about lock his a** in a cell with some real mfs and see how they feel about hitting females.”

Additionally, Fehoko criticized the NFL‘s approach to disciplining players, urging league executives to impose stricter punishments for those involved in serious off-field offenses. He warned that lax consequences allow players to feel untouchable, negatively affecting their behavior outside the game.

“Until NFL execs decide to grow up and actually punish consequential actions over keeping a product on Sunday, we won’t get anywhere. You continue to employ domestic abusers, reckless drivers, and etc. When a guy feels he is untouchable by the job that gives him the most power he will have no regard for common sense when he takes that helmet off. Real sh*t be better.”

Charges Filed Against Falcons Linebacker Following Incident

James Pearce Jr. faces multiple charges including two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing and attempting to evade police, aggravated stalking, and aggravated battery against a law enforcement officer. These serious accusations have overshadowed what has otherwise been a promising start to his professional career.

Pearce Jr.’s Strong Rookie Season Before Legal Troubles

Despite the recent legal issues, Pearce Jr. had an impressive debut season in the NFL. Selected 26th overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Volunteers alum quickly made an impact, leading all rookies with 10.5 sacks. His performance was instrumental in elevating the Falcons’ pass rush ranking from 31st to second in the league.

At the NFL Honors ceremony, Pearce Jr. finished as the runner-up for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, which was claimed by Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger. Many observers had recognized Pearce Jr. as one of the top defensive newcomers during the 2024-25 season.

Broader Implications for the NFL and Player Conduct Policies

The arrest and mounting charges against James Pearce Jr. highlight ongoing concerns about NFL players’ off-field behavior and the league’s disciplinary standards. Breiden Fehoko’s comments underscore growing frustration among former players and fans who desire more decisive action against domestic violence and reckless conduct.

The Falcons and NFL now face pressure to respond firmly to Pearce Jr.’s case, as it raises important questions about accountability and the culture surrounding professional athletes. How the league addresses this situation could influence future policies on player conduct and legal accountability.
