Two Boise State Alums Shine as Seahawks Win Super Bowl

Two former Boise State football players, George Holani and DeMarcus Lawrence, became Super Bowl champions as members of the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The Seahawks secured a 29-13 win over the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, marking a major milestone for both athletes.

Contributions of Holani and Lawrence in Seattle’s Triumph

During the game, Holani contributed with two carries totaling six yards and a seven-yard reception, supporting the Seahawks’ offense. On the defensive side, Lawrence made an impact by recording two tackles—one solo—and defended a pass, helping to contain the Patriots’ attack.

Holani’s Journey from Boise State to Super Bowl Glory

Holani’s time at Boise State spanned from 2019 to 2023, where he played a key role in the Broncos’ Mountain West championship wins during his freshman and senior seasons. Over five years, he accumulated 3,569 rushing yards with 26 touchdowns, along with 88 receptions for 777 yards and eight receiving touchdowns. Despite going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, he quickly joined the Seahawks as a practice squad free agent. By December 2024, Holani was promoted to Seattle’s 53-man roster, mainly serving as the third running back in 2025 and finishing the season with 27 carries for 83 yards and one touchdown as the Seahawks clinched the title.

Lawrence’s Path from Boise to NFL Veteran and Champion

Lawrence began his collegiate career at Butler Community College in Kansas as a redshirt freshman before transferring to Boise State, where he played in 2012 and 2013. Standing 6-foot-3, he earned a reputation as a relentless pass rusher, totaling 120 tackles, 20 sacks, 34 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and an interception across 23 games. Opting to enter the 2014 NFL Draft after his junior year, Lawrence was selected 34th overall in the second round by the Dallas Cowboys. Over 11 seasons with Dallas, he helped the team reach the playoffs six times but never advanced past the divisional round. Following the 2024 season, doubting the Cowboys’ ability to win a Super Bowl, Lawrence signed with the Seahawks in March 2025, becoming a key defensive player in their championship run.

Season Highlights and Impact of Lawrence’s Veteran Leadership

In 2025, at age 33, Lawrence recorded 60 tackles, eight sacks, and forced six fumbles, half of which occurred during the playoffs. He also recovered three fumbles, demonstrating his critical role in Seattle’s postseason success and contributing significantly to the Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory.
