Rob Havenstein, the Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle and Super Bowl champion, announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday, ending an 11-season career marked by consistent starts and key contributions to the team’s success. The 33-year-old player, who battled ankle and knee injuries limiting him to seven games in the 2025 season, decided to step away after a remarkable journey in professional football.
Career Highlights and Contributions to the Rams
Throughout his career with the Rams, Rob Havenstein was a vital presence on the offensive line, starting all 148 games he played over 11 seasons. Despite never earning a Pro Bowl selection, his performance was recognized multiple times by Pro Football Focus when he was named to their Top 101 squad in 2018, 2020, and 2021 with impressive overall grades. Under the leadership of head coach Sean McVay, Havenstein helped the Rams achieve significant milestones, including seven playoff appearances, four NFC West titles, and starting roles in two Super Bowls. He was instrumental in the Rams capturing the Super Bowl LVI championship in 2021.
Selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Havenstein played during the Rams’ final season in St. Louis before the franchise relocated to Los Angeles. Despite his injuries keeping him off the field in the postseason this year, he remained a grounded and supportive figure within the team environment.

Supportive Role and Transition at Right Tackle
As injury limited Havenstein’s time on the field during the 2025 season, younger player Warren McClendon, the 2023 fifth-round draft pick, stepped in as the Rams’ right tackle, showing promising performance. This development opens questions about the team’s future arrangements on the offensive line as they look ahead to upcoming seasons.
Havenstein expressed his affection for the team and its culture, highlighting the camaraderie and mentorship within the locker room.
“I got a lot of love for this building, for this team, for that room,”
he said.
“When I was young, guys were helping me out, and so it’s something I could return the favor and just do what I can. I just wanted to win, whether that was me on the field or smacking Puka (Nacua) on the sidelines, or handing out smelling salts. Whatever I could do to help, that’s what I wanted to do.”

Reflecting on a Dedicated Career
On social media, Havenstein shared his gratitude and pride about his football journey:
“What a ride it’s been! I can look back on my career and smile knowing I have given everything I had and more to the game I love. In saying that, I am officially retiring from the NFL.”

His announcement marks the end of a resilient and passionate career that witnessed the evolution of the Rams into a championship-caliber team. As the franchise plans for its future, the departure of a dependable veteran like Havenstein represents both a challenge and an opportunity for the team’s roster and leadership.
