Las Vegas Raiders General Manager John Spytek expressed confidence that edge rusher Maxx Crosby will remain with the team for the 2026 season despite ongoing trade rumors. Spotted at the NFL Combine on Tuesday, Spytek acknowledged the question of Crosby’s future but affirmed, “I do, yes.” When pressed on his confidence level, he added, “I am,” signaling optimistic expectations for Crosby’s continued presence on the roster.
Strong Rapport Between Crosby and Raiders Management
Spytek emphasized the solid relationship he shares with Crosby, noting that the player is focused on recovery and frequently communicates with the front office.
“Maxx and I have a great relationship. He’s in the building every day getting healthy right now. We talk on the phone. We text. So, I have a great relationship with Maxx,”
Spytek said. He further added,
“Maxx and I have had great conversations. I’m comfortable [with how he feels about the team].”
These remarks suggest a mutual understanding between player and management despite earlier speculation about dissatisfaction.
Trade Possibilities Remain Open but Challenging
While Spytek declined to provide a definitive guarantee regarding Crosby’s tenure, he reaffirmed that the Raiders remain open to offers. Reflecting on trade strategies, Spytek stated,
“I learned a long ago, always listen. I’m always listening.”
When asked if that mindset applies specifically to Crosby’s situation, he responded, “We’re always listening, man.” However, any potential trade would require a substantial package. As noted by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders are reportedly seeking a deal involving two first-round picks plus a player, akin to the value the Dallas Cowboys received for Micah Parsons. Such offers are expected to be rare, limiting trade options.
Crosby’s Impact and Contract Status
At 28 years old and entering his eighth NFL season, Crosby has recorded 69.5 sacks in 110 games, including 10 sacks during 15 games last year. His contractual situation secures him with the Raiders through the 2029 season after signing a three-year extension worth $106.5 million last spring. Should he become available, Crosby would stand out among a talented group of edge defenders expected to be active in free agency and the draft this offseason.
Significance for Raiders’ Defensive Outlook
The Raiders’ desire to retain Maxx Crosby reflects his integral role in their defensive setup. Spytek’s confidence and the strong rapport between the two indicate stability amid uncertainty. However, the openness to listen to trade proposals signals that the team remains vigilant about maximizing assets. How these dynamics unfold will significantly influence the Raiders’ defensive strategies and roster decisions as the 2026 season approaches.
