Patriots’ Maxx Crosby Trade Hopes Take a Hit at Combine

At the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Las Vegas Raiders General Manager John Spytek addressed rumors about the potential trade of standout defensive end Maxx Crosby. With circulating reports suggesting Crosby desires a move away from the Raiders—potentially to the New England Patriots, where coach Mike Vrabel has been mentioned as a preferred option—Spytek expressed strong confidence that Crosby will remain with Las Vegas.

Spytek Emphasizes Crosby’s Value to the Raiders’ Future

Spytek highlighted Crosby’s elite talent as a key asset to the Raiders’ rebuilding efforts.

“Max is an elite player, and I’ve been very upfront from the start when I got here that, you know, we’re in the business of having really good players on the team and we need a lot more of them,”

he said. He added that assembling a top-tier team relies heavily on retaining high-caliber players:

“You know it’s hard to build a great team without elite players.”

Spytek also noted a positive relationship with Crosby, mentioning ongoing communications as Crosby continues to recover from injury.

“Max and I have a great relationship,”

Spytek said.

“He’s in the building every day getting healthy right now. We talk on the phone, we text, so I have a great relationship with him.”

Raiders Appear to Set High Price for Potential Trade

While Spytek’s statements seem to counter trade rumors, some analysts suggest the Raiders might be signaling a high asking price to potential suitors. Reports indicate Las Vegas could demand as much as two first-round draft picks in exchange for Crosby, reflecting his value as a premium pass rusher.

Patriots’ Interest and Trade Possibilities at the Combine

The New England Patriots have been linked to Crosby amid their need for impactful pass rushers. On the day of Spytek’s comments, Patriots Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf acknowledged the team’s openness to trading their first-round draft pick if the right opportunity arises.

“Yeah, we’re open to anything if we think it’s going to help the team both in the short and long term, then it’s something we’ll look at,”

Wolf said during a side interview at the Scouting Combine.

Implications for Team Building and Future Moves

The developments at the combine underscore the uncertainty surrounding Maxx Crosby’s future and the Patriots’ pursuit of defensive reinforcements. Should the Raiders maintain their asking price, New England may need to weigh the cost of parting with valuable draft capital against the immediate impact Crosby could provide. The ongoing conversations signal a tense but potentially pivotal moment for both franchises as they aim to bolster their rosters ahead of the upcoming NFL season.
