Dallas Goedert’s Eagles Return in 2026 Still Possible

Dallas Goedert, the Philadelphia Eaglestight end who set a franchise record with 11 touchdowns last season, faces an uncertain future with the team as he approaches free agency in 2026. Despite his record-breaking performance, questions remain whether the Eagles will retain him, amid salary considerations and team priorities.

Team Management Weighs Re-Signing Goedert Amid Financial Decisions

Goedert is expected to enter free agency as one of the top tight ends available in the NFL. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman addressed the topic during the NFL Combine, acknowledging Goedert’s value without committing to a deal. Roseman praised Goedert, describing him as

“a tremendous player and person for the Philadelphia Eagles,”

and said,

“Really glad we were able to figure it out and bring it back to Philadelphia this year and for this season. Tremendously productive for us, just a huge asset for our offense. To have him on our football team, again, we got to put the whole puzzle together. And so to sit here, — we got a lot of other free agents too — and say, ‘Hey, we’re definitely going to get this guy back,’ when we get this late, obviously, the market dictates that as well. We’ll certainly sit down with his agent here over the next couple of days and have a conversation. Very appreciative of Dallas Goedert.”

Performance and Pay Cut Shape Goedert’s Prospects with Eagles

Although Goedert set a franchise record for touchdowns by a tight end, he did not match the level of impact from previous seasons. Before the 2025 season, the Eagles requested a pay reduction for Goedert, decreasing his salary from $14 million to $10 million, a proposal he accepted. Throughout the season, Goedert remained mostly healthy, appearing in 15 games, but recorded an average of fewer than 10 yards per catch, marking a career-low in that category.

Eagles’ Roster and Financial Challenges Affect Tight End Decisions

Currently, the Eagles’ roster has only Cameron Latu at the tight end position, while other potential options like Grant Calcaterra and Kylen Granson have also entered free agency. The team’s strategy will likely hinge on Goedert’s contract demands and budget constraints, especially with other key players such as Jaelan Phillips and possible retention of Reed Blankenship in play. Market projections put Goedert’s value near $6 million, according to Spotrac, leading to speculation about whether the Eagles can afford to re-sign him.

Offseason Moves and Draft Prospects Could Determine Tight End Role

The Eagles remain hopeful about negotiating with Goedert but acknowledge the competitive nature of the offseason and roster management challenges. Many analysts suggest that the team may look to the NFL Draft to select a new primary tight end, prioritizing other areas in free agency first. The coming weeks will be critical as Philadelphia balances contract talks, positional needs, and salary cap considerations to finalize Goedert’s status for the 2026 season.
