NFL Star Rondale Moore Found Dead at 25 in Indiana

Rondale Moore, a 25-year-old NFL wide receiver known for his collegiate success at Purdue and promising professional start with the Arizona Cardinals, was found dead on Saturday in New Albany, Indiana. Authorities indicated his death may have resulted from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and investigations are continuing.

Police chief Todd Bailey revealed Moore was located in the garage of a residence in his hometown. Floyd County Coroner Matthew Tomlin confirmed the death and noted an autopsy was scheduled for Sunday to determine the official cause.

Injury Struggles Impacted Moore’s NFL Career Across Multiple Teams

Moore’s professional journey was marred by serious injuries. After being traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, he suffered a dislocated right knee during training camp, preventing him from playing any regular-season games for the team. Subsequently, in 2025, Moore signed with the Minnesota Vikings but tore his left knee while returning a punt in the preseason opener, leading to another season spent entirely on injured reserve.

The severity of this injury visibly devastated Moore, who slammed his hand on a cart in frustration immediately after it occurred, a reaction heard throughout the stadium. The Vikings organization has reached out to Moore’s family to express their condolences and offer support.

I am devastated by the news of Rondale’s death. While Rondale had been a member of the Vikings for a short time, he was someone we came to know well and care about deeply,

stated coach Kevin O’Connell.

He was a humble, soft-spoken, and respectful young man who was proud of his Indiana roots. As a player, he was disciplined, dedicated and resilient despite facing adversity multiple times as injuries sidelined him throughout his career. We are all heartbroken by the fact he won’t continue to live out his NFL dream and we won’t all have a chance to watch him flourish.

The Cardinals publicly expressed their sorrow over Moore’s passing, offering their heartfelt sympathies to his loved ones.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who loved him and had the privilege of knowing such a special person,

Moore’s journey began in New Albany, Indiana, near Louisville, Kentucky, where he grew up. As a freshman at Purdue in 2018, he earned first team All-American honors, illustrating his immense potential early on. Jeff Brohm, who coached Moore at Purdue, recalled his exceptional work ethic and competitive nature.

Rondale Moore was a complete joy to coach. The ultimate competitor who wouldn’t back down from any challenge. Rondale had a work ethic unmatched by anyone. A great teammate that would come through in any situation. We all loved Rondale; we loved his smile and his competitive edge that always wanted to please everyone he came in contact,

Moore’s NFL Achievements and Impact on the Field

Selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Cardinals, Moore recorded 1,201 receiving yards and three touchdowns, along with 249 rushing yards and a touchdown over three seasons. Can’t even begin to fathom or process this,

Watt wrote on social media.

There’s just no way. Way too soon. Way too special. So much left to give. Rest in peace Rondale.
